IN 1877 THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD WAS GRANTED PERMISSION TO AGAIN RUN STEAM TRAINS INTO THE CITY OF BROOKLYN.   THE ROAD FROM BROOKLYN TO JAMAICA WAS LEASED FROM THE ATLANTIC AVENUE RAILROAD COMPANY OF BROOKLYN,   A HORSECAR LINE WHICH HAD ABSORBED THE BROOKLYN AND JAMAICA RAILWAY.

FLATBUSH   AVENUE   TERMINAL

SKETCHED FROM AN 1880 ATLAS - NOTE THE TRACK IN ATLANTIC AVENUE

IN 1878 BROOKLYN FLATBUSH AND CONEY ISLAND RAILWAY TRAINS BEGAN USING THE L.I.R.R. STATION.   IT APPEARS FROM THIS ENGRAVING THAT THEIR TRAINS USED THE TRACK ON ATLANTIC AVENUE.

IN 1892 A NEW BRICK PASSENGER STATION WAS ERECTED.

NOTE THE REFRIGERATOR CARS AND MEAT HOUSES AT THE FAR RIGHT.

FORT GREENE PLACE CROSSING

WHEN THESE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN CIRCA 1895 THE TRACK ON ATLANTIC AVENUE WAS STILL THERE,   UNPROTECTED BY THE CROSSING GATES.   THE 1895 MAP SHOWS THAT IT HAD BEEN SHORTENED - THE PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW THAT IT WAS APPARENTLY BEING USED FOR LOADING AND UNLOADING MAIL CARS.

THE OVERHEAD INTERLOCKING TOWER HAD BEEN INSTALLED IN 1892.
THE BUILDINGS ALONG THE WEST SIDE OF FORT GREENE PLACE ARE MEAT HOUSES.
SWIFT & COMPANY OCCUPIED THE TWIN-TURRETED STRUCTURE.
