THE       JAMAICA       ELIMINATION



CABIN SEVEN, LOCATED NORTH OF THE TRACKS AND WEST OF WASH-
INGTON STREET WAS ONE OF TWO CABINS THAT REMAINED AFTER 1913.
CABIN SEVEN HAD THREE TWO LEVER MACHINES AND CONTROLLED
HAND OPERATED SWITCHES AND THE SIGNALS PROTECTING THEM.
THERE WERE A BLOCK OPERATOR (SHEET POSITION) AND TWO
LEVERMEN (OUTSIDE - WEST END AND OUTSIDE - EAST END).
LEVERMEN HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN KNOWN AS "SWITCHMEN".








THE 1916 VALUATION PLAN SHOWS CABIN SEVEN ATOP TRACK NUMBER SIX






TRACK NUMBER SIX WAS "NOT INVENTORIED" - NOT INSTALLED UNTIL NOVEMBER 26, 1929

THESE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN IN OCTOBER 1929


A NEW TRACK WAS BEING INSTALLED NORTH OF THE EXISTING TRACKS.










ON OCTOBER 21 CABIN SEVEN'S SIGNAL,   PICTURED,   WAS MOVED
WEST 25 FEET AND PLACED ON THE PROSPECT STREET BRIDGE.






IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE CABIN IN THESE 1929 PHOTOGRAPHS IS NOT THE BUILDING PICTURED
IN 1925.   THE NEW CABIN IS SLIGHTLY EAST OF THE OLD ONE AND HAS NO "PATIO" ATTACHED.








THE NEW TRACK WAS PLACED IN SERVICE NOVEMBER 26.


IT APPEARS THOUGH THAT THE CABIN IS IN THE WAY.   IT MAY HAVE BEEN MOVED SLIGHTLY OR THE NEW TRACK MAY HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY LOOPED TO THE SOUTH FOR FOUR DAYS.   ALTERNATIVELY THE LATER CABIN   J-1   (A-1)   MIGHT HAVE SERVED AS CABIN SEVEN UNTIL
DECEMBER 1 - OR DECEMBER 8 AS PER GENERAL ORDER 111-15.

A NOVEMBER 22 1929 DIVISION OPERATOR'S NOTICE STATED THAT
POSITIONS AT CABIN SEVEN WOULD BE ABOLISHED DECEMBER 1.


GENERAL ORDER NUMBER 111-15 STATED THAT
CABIN SEVEN WOULD CLOSE DECEMBER 8 1929.
