IN A REORGANIZATION THE B.F.& C.I. BECAME
THE BROOKLYN AND BRIGHTON BEACH RAILROAD.

FROM 1879 NEW YORK STATE ENGINEER'S REPORT ON RAILROADS

THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD'S FIRST INTERLOCKING PLANT AND TOWER WERE INSTALLED AT BEDFORD JUNCTION.   RATHER THAN HAVING THE HOME SIGNALS' ASPECTS INDICATE THE POSITION OF SWITCHES AFTER BEING DISPLAYED FOR TRAINS ,   THERE WERE SEPARATE SEMAPHORE SWITCH SIGNALS AND COLOR HOME SIGNALS.   (READ "SIGNALS AT BEDFORD STATION" ABOVE AND SEE MAP.)

AFTER SERVICE TO FLATBUSH AVENUE TERMINAL CEASED
BRIGHTON TRAINS TERMINATED AT BEDFORD.

A TURNTABLE WAS INSTALLED AND THE TOWER WAS BOARDED UP.

IN 1902 ONE TRACK STILL CONNECTED WITH THE LONG ISLAND.
GATES BLOCKED THE CONNECTING TRACK AND PROVIDED CONTINUITY TO THE FENCE.
A CROSSOVER CONNECTED THE L.I.R.R.'S EASTBOUND AND WESTBOUND TRACKS.
AT THE FAR RIGHT OF THE BLUEPRINT CAN BE SEEN THREE OF THE
FOUR "EL COLUMNS" SUPPORTING THE BRIGHTON BEACH LINE BRIDGE.

THIS BUILDING,   PHOTOGRAPHED BY BILL SLADE IN 1953,
WAS SAID TO BE THE FORMER BRIGHTON LINE STATION.
