THE   SHUTTLE

AS THERE WERE NO FACILITIES FOR TURNING ENGINES
AT BRIDGEHAMPTON,   THE SHUTTLE'S  "D"  CLASS WOULD
RUN BACKWARDS IN ONE DIRECTION.   THIS IS CIRCA 1925.
THE TENDERS OF SOME 4-4-0'S WERE EQUIPPED WITH
PILOTS AND HEADLIGHTS FOR BACKWARD RUNNING.
