THE EASTERN MARINE RAILWAY RAN TO POINT BREEZE.
A FEBRUARY 16, 1885 STORM DAMAGED THE EASTERN MARINE
RAILWAY SO SEVERELY THAT IT WAS NEVER REBUILT.


THE LESS-THAN-A-HALF-MILE-LONG MARINE RAILWAY TO THE
BRIGHTON BEACH HOTEL AT THE MANHATTAN BEACH HOTEL.

A VERY OLD PHOTOGRAPH OF THE MANHATTAN BEACH HOTEL.   A (WESTERN) MARINE RAILWAY TRAIN WITH A MASON BOGIE LOCOMOTIVE AND TWO OPEN CARS IS SEEN AT THE STATION.   EVERY YEAR AUTUMN AND WINTER STORMS DID SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE BEACH AND TO THE MARINE RAILWAY.   THE STORM OF NOVEMBER 25, 1888 RESULTED IN THE RAILWAY'S RELOCATION FURTHER NORTH.




THIS VIEW SHOWS THE MARINE RAILWAY MAIN TRACK IN THE RIGHT FOREGROUND AND THE
CONNECTING TRACK TO THE N. Y. & MANHATTAN BEACH RAILWAY CURVING TO THE NORTH PAST THE HOTEL.
WORKMEN, NUMEROUS TIES AND A GONDOLA INDICATE THAT FILLING AND TRACK REPAIR WERE UNDERWAY.

THE STORM OF NOVEMBER 25, 1888 RESULTED IN THE RAILWAY'S RELOCATION FURTHER NORTH.
IN 1889 THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD CHIEF ENGINEER REPORTED ON THE
PLANNED RELOCATION OF THE MARINE RAILWAY (WESTERN) AWAY FROM THE SEA.

"ORIENTAL" AND HER SISTER "MANHATTAN" WERE BUILT BY BALDWIN
IN 1877 AS THE LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD "FLATBUSH" AND "BROOKLYN".


"ORIENTAL" IN MORRIS PARK YARD
PERHAPS AFTER BEING WITHDRAWN FROM SERVICE IN 1906
