FLORAL  PARK     PART   THREE

NEW MAY 16, 2002 - Revised 5/31/02

THE   SECOND   FK   TOWER
PARK   TOWER

BUILT IN 1924 WHEN THE MAIN LINE WAS WIDENED
TO FOUR TRACKS AS FAR AS FLORAL PARK.

ON THIS 1924 INTERLOCKING PLAN NOTE THE SIDING FOR PORTABLE SUB STATION/S EAST OF FK TOWER.  THIS PLAN AND THE 1945 PLAN BELOW IT SHOW THE LAY-UP TRACK BETWEEN THE HEMPSTEAD BRANCH TRACKS ("TO GARDEN CITY") AND THE MANUAL BLOCK SIGNAL 18L WHICH CONTROLLED THE BLOCK TO "SW" CABIN AT NEW HYDE PARK ROAD, STEWART MANOR.   IN 1946 AUTOMATIC SIGNALS WERE INSTALLED.

PARK WAS THE LAST L.I.R.R. INTERLOCKING TO HAVE SEMAPHORE SIGNALS.
THIS BOX CAMERA PHOTO WAS TAKEN IN 1951.

THE WESTWARD SEMAPHORE DISTANT SIGNAL, 163, AND AUTOMATIC SIGNAL 164 WERE ON
THIS SIGNAL BRIDGE.  THEY WERE REPLACED BY POSITION LIGHT SIGNALS ON THE GROUND.

154 WAS THE L.I.R.R.'S LAST SEMAPHORE AUTOMATIC SIGNAL.

1924 CHANGES - FOUR TRACKS AND HIGH PLATFORMS.

THE CREEDMOOR BRANCH CONNECTION WITH THE
NORTH SIDING CAN BE SEEN BEYOND THE FREIGHT HOUSE.

THE SIGN SAID "PARK" SO WE DID.

THE WEST SIDE OF THE BUILDING IN THE CENTER BACKGROUND
FOLLOWS THE CURVATURE OF THE 1878 CREEDMOOR CUT-OFF.

BY 1924 THE PORTABLE SUB STATION/S HAD BEEN MOVED TO
A SIDING EAST OF FK TOWER OFF MAIN LINE TRACK NUMBER TWO.
(SEE THE 1924 BLUEPRINT) - IN 1931 A PERMANENT SUB STATION WAS ERECTED.
